Spooky season is fast approaching and what better time to delve back into the Beetlejuice franchise? Venture back to the afterlife and relive this Tim Burton horror classic, before heading to the cinema for the long-awaited sequel. Read on to discover every Beetlejuice movie and TV show and where to stream them now.

In 1988, Tim Burton crafted a cult classic in the dark fantasy horror comedy, Beetlejuice. Starring Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis and Catherine O’Hara, the film follows Barbara (Davis) and Adam (Baldwin) as they navigate their new life as ghosts, who are eternally fated to haunt their old house.

As the new owners arrive, their daughter Lydia (Ryder) senses the presence of the former inhabitants, who have hired the help of Betelgeuse (Keaton) to scare the Deetzes away. Its enduring appeal is rooted in its morbid humour and excellent cast, which has led to a spin-off TV series on ABC.

Burton returned to create and develop the 1989 animated series (also called Beetlejuice) which ran for four seasons and 94 episodes. Based on the film of the same name, the series followed Beetlejuice and Lydia as they teamed up in the mortal world whenever Lydia summoned him from the by saying his name three times.

It was a major critical and commercial success grossing $74.7 million on a $15 million budget and has garnered a cult following amongst horror fans ever since. The film even won an Academy Award for Best Makeup and was adapted into an animated television series and a Broadway musical.

In 1990, the TV show won Outstanding Animated Program at the Daytime Emmy Awards, and it spawned various merchandise such as trading cards, a PC game and action figures.

Over the years, the appetite has never waivered for this holiday favourite and after several decades a sequel is now imminent titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Burton is back at the helm of this fantasy comedy horror alongside original cast members, Keaton, Ryder and O’Hara. Joining the franchise is Wednesday’s Jenna Ortega as Lydia’s teenage daughter, Astrid, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe and Burn Gorman. Set thirty-six years after the original events, the Deetz family returns home after an unexpected death. Yet things turn from bad to worse when Astrid accidentally opens a portal and releases Betelgeuse once more…
