Victim/Suspect tracks the experiences of women who have reported being sexually assaulted to the police but have not been believed and have even been accused of lying. Through interviews with police officers, legal experts and victims' families across the country, reporter Rae de Leon documents these cases. Some of the women who reported the crimes against them have been charged with making false claims and face lengthy prison sentences. The documentary exposes the unfair treatment and institutional bias towards these women.
Victim/Suspect is a documentary film directed by Nancy Schwartzman for Netflix. Schwartzman is an award-winning director of numerous documentaries including Roll Red Roll and Anonymous Comes To Town.
Rae de Leon, a journalist with The Center for Investigative Reporting, and Amanda Pike, the Center's director, are both featured in the documentary. Victim/Suspect is produced by de Leon and Pike, who are joined by Christopher Clements, Julie Goldman and Alice Henty as fellow producers. Carolyn Hepburn serves as the executive producer.
