The latest Creed entry marks the directorial debut of star Michael B. Jordan
Creed III is a sports drama produced by MGM Studios. It is the third film in the Creed series following 2015’s Creed and 2018’s Creed II. It is also the ninth film in the Rocky franchise. Creed III marks the directorial debut of lead star Michael B. Jordan who has portrayed Adonis Creed in all three films. It is the first film in the franchise to use IMAX cameras as well as being the first sports film in history to do so.
The film is based on a story by Ryan Coogler, who directed 2015’s Creed, and a screenplay by Keenan Coogler and Zach Baylin. Tessa Thompson returns as Bianca Taylor. Phylicia Rashad, Wood Harris and Florian Munteanu round out the cast with Jonathan Majors portraying main antagonist Damian Anderson. Creed III will be the first film in the Rocky franchise to not star Sylvester Stallone, although the actor remains a producer.
Stallone spearheaded the Rocky franchise in 1976 after originally writing the film’s screenplay in three and a half days. The first film won three Academy Awards including Best Picture and went on to produce five direct sequels and three spin-off sequels with Creed.
