Synopsis
More than a millenium before Geralt of Rivia set off on his adventures, the first Witcher entered the world. The Witcher: Blood Origin is a fantasy miniseries produced by Netflix. The series is created by Declan de Barra and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. De Barra is an Irish writer who previously worked on Netflix's Iron Fist, and Schmidt Hissrich is the showrunner for The Witcher.
This miniseries is a prequel to the fantasy series based on the book of the same name by Polish writer, Andrzej Sapkowski. The Witcher literary universe exists in 15 fantasy novels and 6 short stories. The stories revolve around Geralt of Rivia, a hunter who gains the strength to fight monsters and beasts during his youth.Sapkowski first brought the world of The Witcher to life in a short story, and went on to build a vast universe with unique characters and captivating storylines.
Sophia Brown, Michelle Yeoh, Lenny Henry and Laurence O'Fuarain star in this fantastical story. Brown plays Éile, a warrior who belongs to the Queen's Guard. Yeoh stars as Scian, the last member of a nomadic tribe of sword-elves who seeks to find a lost blade belonging to her people. Laurence O'Fuarain plays Fjall, a warrior who on a path of revenge. The series consists of four episodes that tell the prequel story.The Witcher: Blood Origin is a Netflix original series and was released exclusively on the platform on December 25, 2022.
