Synopsis
Leo Pap is putting together a team. The engineer mastermind is making his moves and putting his pieces in place for what will be the largest heist in history. Security systems expert Roger is one of those pieces, a man who knows how to get around the complex systems of safety and security. Sometimes though, you just need to blow things up and that’s where Judy comes in. A detonation and demolition expert, Judy can manage a controlled explosion in any condition. One thing that can’t just be blown wide open is the vault itself. Enter Bob, a chatty and arrogant safe-cracker who has earned at least some of his boasting. Getting stuff out is the job for Stan, the smuggler with a heart. Hannah has to handle the money. The most intelligent of the group with one foot in the world of high finance, her expertise will definitely come in handy. Keeping to the letter of the law might not seem like a preoccupation for a group of heist-happy criminals. But Leo Pap knows that and keeps Ava close, an attorney who can advise on all matters relating to the legal system. This formidable team is up against the toughest vault and then FBI Agent Nazan Abassi who is on the hunt for the whole gang.

Kaleidoscope Season 1 is a heist thriller television series. The show is created by Eric Garcia, a screenwriter, and novelist known for his writing on Repo Men, Anonymous Rex, and Strange but True. He also wrote the novel on which the Ridley Scott film Matchstick Men was based. Continuing their collaboration, Scott Free Productions produces Kaleidoscope and Ridley Scott take the role of executive producer on the show. Jose Padilha, a Brazilian filmmaker, known for his movie Elite Squad is set to direct two episodes. He is joined by Everado Gout, Robert Townsend, and Mairzee Almas who all direct episodes in the series. The show is a non-linear streaming experience in which any episode can be watched at any time. Without a set order, each episode is named after a color.
Season 1 of Kaleidoscope is led by Giancarlo Esposito who plays the mastermind Leo Pap. Esposito is a fan favorite known for his role as Gus Fring in Breaking Bad which earned him a variety of awards and nominations. He is joined by renowned Spanish actress Paz Vega who plays Ava Mercer, the attorney. British actor of stage and screen Rufus Sewell is security systems expert Roger. High-finance Hannah is played by Tati Gabrielle. Bomb-maker Judy Goodwin is portrayed by Rosaline Elbay. Safe-breaking Bob is played by the Australian actor Jai Courtney. Rounding out the cast is Iranian-American actress Niousha Noor who portrays the FBI agent, Nazan Abassi. Kaleidoscope was released on Netflix on January 1, 2023.

Under the working title Jigsaw, Netflix confirmed they had ordered eight episodes of a new show developed by Eric Garcia in mid-2021. The initial announcement revealed that Scott Free Productions and Automatik Entertainment would be the production companies handling the series. The show began filming in September 2021 at the Netflix studio in Brooklyn. It was confirmed as the first show to be filmed there. Jose Padilha was confirmed as an attached director in the initial announcement. Further to that, was confirmation of the cast including the stand-out star Giancarlo Esposito. In March 2022, filming was officially completed and a few months later a list of other directors was revealed to have been shooting the show. They included Mairzee Almas, known for having worked extensively with Netflix before on the likes of The Sandman and Jessica Jones. The show was confirmed to be titled Kaleidoscope in November 2022. This confirmation came alongside a behind-the-scenes inside look at the show which hinted at the tone and style. It also revealed some of the inspiration for the show as well as expanding on the non-linear nature of the experience. In December 2022, the first trailer is released showing some of Leo Pap's backstory and teasing the seven billion dollar score. Netflix released all episodes of Kaleidoscope on 1st January, 2023.
