Synopsis
The story of how a young Charlotte became a powerful monarch
Young Charlotte is betrothed to King George. But when she turns up to London in order to marry, she is far from the happy bride-to-be. Rather, this feisty young woman will need winning over if she is to become the Queen. With appearances from Violet Bridgerton and Lady Danbury, Charlotte is never far from intrigue and drama. This is the story of a woman intent on changing the society she’s set to rule.

What to know
Netflix and Shonda Rhimes expand the Bridgerton universe
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story Season 1 is a period drama television show. It serves as a prequel spin-off to the hit series Bridgerton. The show serves as part of the deal between Netflix and Shonda Rhimes, who produces through her production company Shondaland. The series is directed by long-time Shonda Rhimes collaborator Tom Verica. He is known for his previous work on Bridgerton as well as having helmed episodes of Inventing Anna and The Umbrella Academy.
The young Queen Charlotte is played by India Amarteifo. Golda Rosheuval reprises her role as the older Queen Charlotte from Bridgerton. Arsema Thomas portrays a young Lady Danbury with Adjoa Andoh back as the older version of the character. Hugh Sachs, Ruth Gemmell, Sam Clemmett, Tunji Kazim, and Cyril Nri round out the cast. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story Season 1 was released on May 4, 2023 on Netflix.
