Zac Efron Movies Ranked: The 25 Best Films and Where to Watch Them Online

Updated on

During the late 2000s and 2010s, Zac Efron was seemingly everywhere. Read on to discover 25 of the best Zac Efron movies and where you can stream them right now.

The Californian native skyrocketed to fame following the success of the Disney Channel Original Movie, High School Musical, and its sequels. The initial two films were so popular, its third and final installment released theatrically and earned a whopping $252 million at the worldwide box office. While subsequent roles fit into the mold of being a Hollywood heartthrob as seen in Hairspray, 17 Again, Neighbors, We Are Your Friends, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates and Baywatch, Efron also chose roles that challenged the audience’s perception of who he is as an actor. He starred in more dramatic titles during the height of his High School Musical fame with Me and Orson Welles and Charlie St. Cloud, and continued to demonstrate his acting capabilities throughout the 2010s with The Paperboy, The Disaster Artist and The Greatest Showman.

Efron starred as serial killer Ted Bundy in the Netflix original film, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, in 2019. Although the film received mixed reviews, Efron’s performance was singled out as being one of the highlights of the film. He played a father in the 2022 remake of Firestarter and every millennial could hear the sounds of their aged bones cracking at the thought of Troy Bolton being the parent of a grown child. In 2023, he tackled one of his most challenging roles playing retired professional wrestler Kevin Von Erich in The Iron Claw. Critics and fans alike praised Efron’s portrayal of the real-life wrestler and the film’s depiction of the heart-wrenching Von Erich family history.

He has lent his voice to a number of roles throughout his career as well including in The Lorax, playing Fred Jones in 2020’s Scoob! along with a few episodes of Robot Chicken. Efron won a Daytime Emmy Award in 2021 for Outstanding Daytime Program Host for his Netflix web documentary series, Down to Earth with Zac Efron, wherein he travels the world exploring how they handle environmental sustainability.
