The New Orleans-native debuted in the 1991 coming-of-age drama, The Man in the Moon, when she was 15 years old. After leading in the 1998 dramedy, Pleasantville, alongside Tobey Maguire and Paul Walker, she starred in two ‘90s classics depicting polar opposite characters in Cruel Intentions and Election. Both films skyrocketed Witherspoon’s career into the 2000s. Her role as Elle Woods in the 2001 legal comedy, Legally Blonde, and its 2003 sequel made her a household name by the time she won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2005 for her role as June Carter Cash in Walk The Line.

Throughout the late 2000s into the 2020s, Witherspoon starred in a mix of romantic comedies including Sweet Home Alabama, This Means War and Your Place or Mine, along with a string of dramas such as Water for Elephants, Mud, Inherent Vice and 2014’s Wild which earned her a second Oscar nomination for Best Actress. She also appeared in a number of family-oriented projects including Monsters vs. Aliens, Sing and Sing 2, and A Wrinkle in Time

Witherspoon started her production company Pacific Standard (currently known as Hello Sunshine) in 2012 with the goal to produce films striving to depict strong female lead characters. Under Hello Sunshine, she has produced notable works including Gone Girl, Wild, Where the Crawdads Sing and the various streaming shows she appears in from HBO’s Big Little Lies to Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere.
