How To Watch Every One Piece TV Show and Movie in Order

Published on

Ever since Netflix dropped season 1 of its live-action One Piece adaptation, the anime franchise has been gaining even more followers. However, newcomers may be daunted, considering the franchise has accumulated 1,000+ episodes, 15 movies, and a live-action series over its nearly 27-year run. Hence, this guide will explain where and how to watch all the One Piece TV shows and films in order.

The One Piece franchise began as a manga series by Eiichiro Oda in 1997, which is still ongoing. Readers were captivated by the story of Monkey D. Luffy, a kind-hearted boy with big dreams whose body gains rubber-like properties after he eats a Devil Fruit. His powers come in handy as he and his gang of Straw Hat Pirates, including Roronoa Zoro, Nami, Sanji, Usopp, and Tony Tony Chopper, search the four seas in pursuit of the fabled One Piece treasure.

Two years after the manga began, the One Piece animated series debuted in Japan. Since then, the anime has been broadcast and streamed worldwide and is currently in its 21st season. By 2000, the very first theatrical film, One Piece: The Movie, premiered. Back then, there were only four Straw Hat crew members, and the show was still in its humble beginnings. So, the movie was essentially an extended episode of One Piece, but today, it is quite charming and nostalgic.

The movie paved the way for fourteen more theatrical films, many of them much larger in scale than the original. Several movies have stood out more than others, such as One Piece Film: Z, which is often hailed as the best movie in the franchise, and One Piece: Strong World, which was an original story from Oda. The movies allowed filmmakers to experiment a bit and introduce the One Piece characters to new genres, such as Baron Omatsuri And The Secret Island, which has a horror vibe, or One Piece Film: Gold, a heist film.

It’s important to remember that neither the movies nor the live-action series are canon to the anime series. They are not necessary to understand the TV series, although they may relate closely to the manga or series. Several movies may even reference events or reflect changes in the series or manga, meaning some may wish to watch them chronologically with the show to avoid any potential spoilers.
