Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Season 1 is the first season in the action rom-com anime series produced by Universal Content Productions and Science SARU for Netflix. The animated series is based on Canadian cartoonist Bryan Lee O'Malley’s graphic novel series titled Scott Pilgrim. In 2010, the live-action film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World was released, eventually obtaining cult classic status. The film was co-written and directed by Edgar Wright, who acts as executive producer of the series. Graphic novel creator Bryan Lee O'Malley writes and develops Scott Pilgrim the Anime with BenDavid Grabinski, and the Spanish animator Abel Góngora from Science SARU joins them as the director of animation. 

The cast from the original live-action film return to voice their previous roles in the series, including Michael Cera as the ritual Scott Pilgrim, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the guarded Ramona Flowers, and Kieran Culkin as Scott’s best friend, Wallace Wells. Also returning are Ramona’s evil exes: Chris Evans as Lucas Lee, Brandon Routh as Todd Ingram, Jason Schwartzman as Gideon Graves, Mae Whitman as Roxie Richter, and Satya Bhabha as Matthew Patel. Ellen Wong reprises her role as Knives Chau, as does Mark Webber as Stephen Stills, Brie Larson as Envy Adams, Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers, Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim, and Alison Pill as Kim Pine.
