In 1776, renowned scientist and politician Benjamin Franklin sets out on a top secret mission to France, where he will remain for eight years to ensure the continuation of democracy.
Franklin Season 1 is the first season of the historical drama miniseries produced for Apple TV+. Kirk Ellis (John Adams) and Howard Korder (Boardwalk Empire) write the series, while Tim Van Patten directs. Van Patten is known for his work directing episodes of acclaimed series such as The Sopranos, Rome, Sex and the City, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, and Black Mirror. The series is based on author Stacy Schiff's 2005 book A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America.
Academy Award-winner Michael Douglas plays scientist, politician, and American Founding Father Benjamin Franklin in the series. He is joined by Noah Jupe, who portrays his son William Temple Franklin, who accompanies him on his journey to France. Eddie Marsan joins as fellow Founding Father John Adams. Other members of the cast include Daniel Mays, Assaad Bouab, Marc Duret, Ludivine Sagnier, Thibault de Montalembert, John Hollingworth, amongst others.
