Synopsis
When Jin befriends a new school exchange student, he is thrown into a world of gods and goddesses of Chinese mythology
Jin Wang is an average American high-school teen, grappling with friendships, crushes, homework, and figuring out his Chinese-American identity. But when he meets the new exchange student Wei-Chen, he is plunged into a multidimensional adventure full of the gods and goddesses of Chinese mythology.

Disney reunites the award-winning cast of Everything, Everywhere, All At Once for American Born Chinese
American Born Chinese Season 1 is the first season of the fantasy action series produced by 20th Television for Disney+. The series is based on Gene Luen Yang’s graphic novel of the same name. Kelvin Yu writes the screenplay, and Destin Daniel Cretton directs and executive produces. Actor Lucy Liu and filmmaker Peng Zhang also feature as guest directors on the series. Famed Asian-American fashion designers Phillip Lim and Prabal Gurung team up with costume designer Joy Cretton to create the stunning looks featured in the series.
Jin Wang, the teenager at the heart of the story, is played by Ben Wang. Jim Liu takes plays the adventurous exchange student Wei-Chen, and Yeo Yann Yann and Chin Han play Jin’s parents, Christine and Simon Wang. Three of the main cast members from the critically acclaimed Everything, Everywhere, All At Once reunite for American Born Chinese, including 2023’s Best Actress-winner Michelle Yeoh as the mythical Goddess Guanyin; 2023’s Best Supporting Actor-winner Ke Huy Quan plays the fictional ‘90s sitcom character Freddy Wong; and Best Supporting Actress-nominee Stephanie Hsu appears as the goddess Shiji Niangniang. Daniel Wu plays an all-powerful god named Sun Wukong (aka ‘The Monkey King’), while Sydney Taylor plays Jin’s schoolmate and crush, Amelia.
