Pixar Animation Studios is the animated production company famous for titles like Finding Nemo, Up and Inside Out among many others. This guide includes information about Pixar and where to watch all the Pixar movies in order.

In 1995, Pixar released the world’s first fully computer-animated feature film, Toy Story. The film made $394.4 million at the global box office, from a budget of $30 million. It was directed by John Lasseter, the former chief creative officer of Pixar, who also helmed A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2 and Cars.

The company, which was founded in 1979 by Edwin Catmull and Alvy Ray Smith, was originally called The Graphics Group and part of the Lucasfilm computer division. In 1981, the company’s name was changed to Pixar and in 1986, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs became the majority shareholder in the company. Disney then acquired Pixar in 2006.

Pixar Short Films

Pixar Animation Studios produced short films long before they first released Toy Story. Many of these screen in cinemas before their feature films.

Some Pixar short films are based on characters from their feature films like Auntie Edna from The Incredibles, Carl's Date featuring Carl Fredricksen from Up, and Toy Story of Terror! with Jessie, Woody and Buzz. Other successful Pixar short films include Lava, Bao, and Geri's Game.

The Success Of Pixar Animation Studios

Pixar’s movies have grossed over $15 billion at the box office since the studio opened, and eleven of its films have won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature including The Incredibles, Coco and WALL-E

The commercially and critically acclaimed studio has won a total of 23 Academy Awards, 10 Golden Globe Awards and 11 Grammy Awards. Additionally, at the Venice Film Festival in 2009, John Lasseter, Brad Bird, Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton and Lee Unkrich, the original creative minds behind Pixar Animation Studios, were awarded the Golden Lion award for Lifetime Achievement.
