It’s official! We are getting a new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie in 2025! Freddie Prinze Jr. has already signed on and Jennifer Love Hewitt is in talks to reprise her role as well. The film, which is slated for a July 2025 release, is set to be a direct sequel to I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, ignoring the events of the third movie.

In the original movie, a group of teenagers (including Prinze Jr. and Hewitt, along with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe) accidentally hit a fisherman while driving drunk. To avoid getting in trouble, they decide to dump his body in the ocean and pretend it never happened… little do they know he wasn’t actually dead, and now he’s out for murderous revenge.
I Still Know What You Did Last Summer
The cast grew for the ‘98 sequel and included Brandy and Jack Black. Hewitt and Prinze Jr. also reprised their roles, and Hewitt is invited to the Bahamas after winning a radio contest (anyone with geography knowledge will immediately know something is wrong once they hear Hewitt’s “winning” answer). Turns out the whole thing is a trap to finally kill them for what they did that one fateful summer.
I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer
The straight-to-video third movie oddly takes place far away from the ocean in Colorado and the Fisherman returns yet again… this time from beyond the grave. The movie received some pretty awful reviews thanks to its low quality, bad acting, and making the story supernatural. The upcoming film will ignore the events of the third movie.

In 2021, Prime Video launched a series reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer. The show was a modernized retelling of the story, taking more influence from the original 1973 novel than the movie. In early 2022 after one season, Amazon canceled the show.
