Synopsis
Loosely based on 1970s Korean comic strip, this period drama revolves around the life of Lee Gyeom (Lee Joon-gi), or Yong, who is a son of a fallen nobleman loyal to King Injo (Kim Chang-wan). In due time, Yong suffers from terrible amnesia and for many years has acquired skills essential to equip him during his later life. As he regains his memories and discovers the horrible past, Yong dons a persona called “Iljimae” in championing people’s rights and oppressing corrupt noblemen and royals. Along the way, he meets enchanting Byeon Eun-chae (Han Hyo-joo) where the two unknowingly work for and against each other, while contending with mysterious happenings before unveiling the real truth. Who does Iljimae works for? And Yong can avenge his dead father without compromising his alter ego?
