After having been frozen for a hundred years, Aang awakens to find he is the last airbender remaining. With the Fire Nation intent on world domination, and his population decimated, Aang and his two companions Katara and Sokka go on a mission to master the elements and bring balance back into the world. While on the mission, Aang must also evade capture by the devious Prince Zuko.
Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 1 is the first season in the live-action fantasy adventure series produced by Rideback and Nickelodeon for Netflix. The series is based on the original animated series of the same title created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko for Nickelodeon. The series takes place within a fantasy world in which some people possess the ability to ‘bend’ specific elements: earth, fire, water, and air. The live-action Netflix series is developed by Albert Kim, who also acts as writer and executive producer.
Canadian actor Gordon Cormier plays Aang, the last airbender and the balance-bringing Avatar. Canadian actress Kiawentiio portrays Katara, a waterbender, and Ian Ousley plays her brother, Sokka. The exiled Prince Zuko is played by Dallas Liu, while his mentor, General Iroh, is portrayed by Paul Sun-Hyung Lee. The beloved character from the original series, the Cabbage Merchant, also appears with original animed series actor James Sie in the role.
