Garfield is an animated comedy film produced by Columbia Pictures, Alcon Entertainment, and Paws, Inc. It is based on the beloved comic strip of the same name by cartoonist Jim Davis. The film follows the story of the Monday-hating lazy cat named Garfield who is pulled from his comfortable life into a risky heist plot when his father Vic appears on the scene. Garfield is based on the comic series of the same name, which features the orange tabby cat, Garfield, as he goes through life doing as little as possible while providing cynical commentary. Mark Dindal directs the film, after previously directing animated features such as The Emperor's New Groove, Chicken Little, and Cats Don’t Dance. It is written by David Reynolds, who also co-wrote the scripts for The Emperor’s New Groove and Finding Nemo.
The lazy orange furball Garfield is voiced by comic actor Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy). He is joined by Samuel L Jackson, who voices Garfield’s father, Vic. The rest of the cast includes Nicholas Hoult, Ving Rhames, Cecily Strong, Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Bowen Yang.
Garfield was released in cinemas in the UK on May 24, 2024.
