  "What was it like growing up as a Taiwanese-American in 2008? Much the same as being a teenager at any time - or at least, at any time since the arrival of the internet. Gently crafted by writer/director Sean Wang, the story of Chris “Didi” Wang, whose desire to fit in with his American peers alienates him from his family and makes him turn to YouTube for life lessons, is full of funny, tender observations on coming of age in the digital age. At its heart, though, is a universally recognisable story, as Didi (Izaac Wang) slowly realises his mother Chungsing (an outstanding Joan Chen) is not a monster, but his most valuable friend."
