The film franchise, based Meyer’s books Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, consists of five films: Twilight, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2.
The five movies were a global phenomenon, grossing a total of $3.346 billion from a combined production budget of $401 million dollars. The movies are also accredited by many for kick-starting the trend of vampire movies and television series in the following years of Twilight’s release.
Twilight
The first film in the franchise, Twilight, kicks off the series when Bella Swan moves to Forks and falls in love with Edward Cullen. Twilight was directed by Catherine Hardwicke, from a screenplay by Melissa Rosenberg and music by Carter Burwell.
Kristen Stewart stars as Bella Swan opposite Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen and Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black. Billy Burke plays Charlie Swan, with Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed and Jackson Rathborne as the Cullen family.
Supporting characters in Twilight include Cam Gigandet as James, Rachelle Lefevre as Victoria, Edi Gathegi as Laurent and Anna Kendrick as Jessica Stanley in one of her first feature film appearances.
The Twilight Saga: New Moon
The Twilight Saga: New Moon is directed by Chris Weitz, with Rosenberg returning to pen the screenplay. The music is composed by Alexandre Desplat, and produced by Wyck Godfrey and Karen Rosenfelt.
The main cast all return for the second installment. With the film’s introduction of the Volturi, a host of new characters join the cast of The Twilight Saga including Michael Sheen as Aro, Dakota Fanning as Jane, with Jamie Campbell Bower, Christopher Heyerdahl and Cameron Bright.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse focuses heavily on the love triangle between Bella, Edward and Jacob. Tensions are heightened as an army of vampires is growing nearby and the treaty between vampires and werewolves is under threat.
Melissa Rosenberg writes the screenplay, and the film is directed by David Slade. Bryce Dallas Howard plays Victoria in the third film, replacing Rachelle Lefevre. Gil Birmingham, who plays Quileute elder Billy Black also has a bigger role in the film.
New characters in Eclipse include Chaske Spencer as Sam Uley, Tyson Houseman as Quil Ateara, Kiowa Gordon as Embry Call, Tinsel Korey as Emily Young, Julia Jones as Leah Clearwater and Booboo Stewart as Seth Clearwater.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 & Part 2
The first half of the franchise finale finds Bella in an unprecedented situation, as Bella falls pregnant with Edward’s baby. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 are both directed by Bill Condon and written by Melissa Rosenberg.
In addition to the main cast from the previous films, Breaking Dawn boasts an enormous ensemble cast. The ensemble includes Rami Malek, Wendell Pierce, Lee Pace, Maggie Grace, Mia Maestro and Noel Fisher.
