How to Watch the Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies in Order & Where to Stream Them

Updated on

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the highest-grossing franchises of all time. With over 30 films in its roster and several acclaimed TV-shows, the MCU (as it’s called by its fans) is an ever-expanding universe based on the stories and characters from Marvel Comics. Read on to discover how to stream the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies in order.

Back in 2008, Robert Downey Jr. kick-started the franchise with Iron Man in Phase One, which introduced the core characters, who would later become The Avengers in 2012. Hollywood actors such as Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner were the first heroes to join the team, but as the phases developed more characters have been introduced.

Phases Two and Three introduced Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa in Black Panther, Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange and Tom Holland as Spider-Man. The first three phases culminated in the action-packed Infinity Saga which ended in Phase 4 with the epic two-parter, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

After this phase, Marvel moved into the Multiverse saga as the films and limited Disney+ series such as Loki and WandaVision began to explore the nuances and complications of the Multiverse in more depth. Phase Four ran until 2022, before Phase Five began in 2023 and comes to an end this year.

If you’re new to the MCU, it can be difficult to know where to start to make sure you understand any on-going storylines in this interconnected universe and avoid all those all-important spoilers! Devoted Marvel fans will know that there are two ways to revisit the MCU either by re-watching all the films and TV series in order of their release date (starting with Iron Man), or by watching the films in chronological order based on when the movies are set.
