Daredevil is one of the most beloved Marvel Comics vigilantes to make the leap from page to screen. Blinded in a childhood accident, Matt Murdock honed his other senses to such an extent he can perceive far more than the average human, eventually learning to fight and becoming the vigilante known as Daredevil. While protecting his New York neighbourhood of Hell’s Kitchen by night, by day he is a lawyer serving justice in the courts.
While Daredevil has appeared in many productions throughout the years, he has only had a few standalone features himself. The latest is Daredevil: Born Again, a continuation of the 2015 Netflix series, which sees actor Charlie Cox reprise his role as the character and bring the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen firmly into the Disney fold. The Trial of the Incredible Hulk
This TV film was created as an addition to the 1970s series The Incredible Hulk, which starred Bill Bixby as Bruce Banner. Rex Smith played Matt Murdock (aka Daredevil) in the TV film, which saw him team up with the Hulk against Kingpin.
Spider-Man: The Animated Series
This animated Spider-Man series ran for four successful seasons in the 1990s and featured an animated Matt Murdock (voiced by Edward Albert) in two episodes during the third season. Murdock is introduced as Peter Parker’s attorney.
Fantastic Four
In this two-season animated series, Daredevil briefly joins the Fantastic Four superhero team, first as a lawyer, and then in his vigilante suit. In the episode, Daredevil helps the team go up against Doctor Doom after the villain takes over the Fantastic Four’s headquarters.
Daredevil
Daredevil’s first standalone film featured Ben Affleck as the masked vigilante, starring alongside Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin, and Colin Farrell as Bullseye. While its theatrical release received mixed reviews, the director’s cut was viewed much more favourably and ultimately spawned an Elektra spinoff film.
Elektra
Ben Affleck’s Daredevil appears in a brief cameo in a deleted scene added to the director’s cut of the film. Sadly, the character did not appear at any other time in Elektra’s standalone picture, but his inclusion, beckoning her back home in a dream sequence, would have cued up a long-awaited reunion between the two characters, had the film series continued.
Marvel’s Daredevil
After the rights to Daredevil were transferred back to Marvel, the studio teamed up with Netflix to bring Matt Murdock to the small screen for a big introduction. This time around, the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen was played by Charlie Cox, who would go on to play the character in all other Marvel and Sony productions. The series brought Daredevil into the greater scheme of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Netflix and introduced key characters like Vincent D'Onofrio’s Kingpin, Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page, and Elden Henson’s ‘Foggy’ Nelson.
The Defenders
After the big success of Daredevil’s solo Netflix series, the platform commissioned more series focusing on the individual characters Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Daredevil, and Jessica Jones, before getting them all together for the team-up series The Defenders. In the series, the Defenders assemble in order to take on a vast criminal organisation known as The Hand in New York City.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
In a blink-or-you’ll-miss-it moment during Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, we catch a glimpse of an alternate universe version of a teenage Matt Murdock. In this universe, he is actually the son of Kingpin, his arch nemesis.
Spider-Man: No Way Home
Charlie Cox reprised his role as Matt Murdock (aka Daredevil) for the first time since the end of The Defenders Netflix series. His appearance as Peter Parker’s lawyer, while brief, ushered in a new era for Cox's continuation as the character in a new moment in the MCU.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law
In this Marvel Disney+ series, Cox gets to show off a more playful side to his Daredevil. The series focuses on Jennifer Walters (aka She-Hulk) as she attempts to navigate life as a single 30-something practicing law in New York City. Matt Murdock appears as in his attorney form and has a brief fling with Jennifer.
Echo
This MCU series focuses on Maya Lopez, a deaf Native American vigilante hero who, despite being raised by Wilson Fisk (aka Kingpin), breaks free to forge her own path. Given the connection between Kingpin and Daredevil, Echo was the perfect series to bring Cox’s Murdock and D'Onofrio’s Kingpin back before Daredevil’s next big solo series. While the series features Kingpin more, Daredevil briefly appears in a scene where he fights Echo herself.
Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man
Charlie Cox returned to voice the animated Daredevil briefly in the Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man series. The show features an alternate universe version of Daredevil, who arrives to thwart one of Spidey’s plans. With the series already renewed for a second season, we may catch the Devil from Hell’s Kitchen in the neighbourhood once again.
Daredevil: Born Again
This 2025 series is a revival of Marvel’s Daredevil, and brings back the original cast for a new chapter firmly within the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Disney+. Charlie Cox reprises his role as Matt Murdock in a continuation of the Netflix series that sees his vigilante alter ego come out of retirement to take on Vincent D'Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk (aka Kingpin), who has now become the powerful Mayor of New York City.
