Sunja and her family are deeply affected by the events of World War II. After her husband is arrested, she is left to support their two sons alone. In an effort to escape the hardships of city life, Sunja begins selling kimchi on the streets of Osaka in 1938. As her sons Noa and Mozasu grow up in a time of scarcity and war, they face many challenges. Despite the struggles, Sunja grows stronger and perseveres. Her grandson Solomon, however, faces new challenges when he becomes involved in a large, morally ambiguous business deal with Mamoru Yoshii, a Japanese businessman. How Solomon handles the ethical questions raised by this deal and the behavior of his business partner will be crucial for his future.
Pachinko season 2 is the second season of the period drama TV series created by Soo Hugh for Apple TV+. Hugh has previously written for such TV shows as AMC's The Killing and co-showrunning another AMC series with The Terror. Pachinko is based on Min Jin Lee's novel of the same name which was released in 2017. The first season was one of Apple TV+’s hit shows, having received immense critical acclaim and numerous accolades. Hugh served as head writer on the series with directing duties handled by Kogonada and Justin Chon. A second season for Pachinko was greenlit only one month following the release of its first season, prior to its finale.
Youn Yuh-jung returns as lead Kim Sunja with Kim Min-ha portraying her teenage self and Lee Min-ho joining her as Koh Hansu. Other cast members include Soji Arai as Baek Mozasu, Jin Ha as Solomon Baek, Han Jun-woo as Baek Yoseb, Jung Eun-chae as Kyunghee and Felice Choi as older Kyunghee, Steve Sanghyun Noh as Baek Isak and Anna Sawai as Naomi.
