Synopsis
Married assassin couple goes undercover for enigmatic agency
In the heart of Manhattan, John and Jane Smith unexpectedly find themselves employed by a secret spy agency. Promised a life of opulent espionage, global adventures and a gorgeous brownstone, there's a twist – they must assume new identities in a pre-arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Donald Glover and Maya Erskine lead TV reboot of original film starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
Mr. & Mrs. Smith is an action-spy comedy TV series co-created by Francesca Sloane and Donald Glover for Amazon Prime Video. It is based on the original film from 2005 directed by Simon Kinberg which starred Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt as a married couple hiding the nature of their careers from each another. Sloane has previously written on such TV shows as The First and Fargo. She also wrote on Glover's hit FX series Atlanta and shares in the Peabody Award for Entertainment the team won in 2023. Glover is an award-winning writer, actor and musician. He's best known for starring in the sitcom Community along with creating and starring in the Primetime Emmy Award-winning series Atlanta. He's also appeared in several popular films throughout the years including The Martian, Solo: A Star Wars Story and voicing Simba in The Lion King remake. He's also a Grammy Award-nominated artist under his stage name of Childish Gambino.
Sloane and Glover also serve as executive producers on Mr. & Mrs. Smith alongside Yariv Milchan, Arnon Milchan, Jenny Robins, Michael Schaefer, Stephen Glover, Anthony Katagas, Nate Matteson and another Atlanta collaborator, Hiro Murai. Atlanta cinematographers, Stephen Murphy and Christian Sprenger, handle the series' cinematography.
Glover costars in Mr. & Mrs. Smith as John Smith with Maya Erskine as Jane Smith. Erskine has appeared in Man Seeking Woman and Betas. She is best known for co-creating and starring in the Hulu dramedy series PEN15, playing a fictionalized version of her 13-year-old self. The rest of the supporting cast includes Parker Posey, Wagner Moura, Michaela Coel, John Turturro and Paul Dano.
