Synopsis
Eddie Redmayne looks at war from the point of view of the war artists. What is a war artist? What was their role? What does it involve? What is their relationship with the rest of the troops? What do the other soldiers think of them? This film tells the story of these artists and the art they leave behind. Would their art stand the test of history? The complexity facing many of the artists was that their subject matter was dangerously intertwined with their lives. Issues of subject matter affected this brave group of men, who were eyewitnesses to war. Would they get killed in battle? Could they actually paint the atrocities? Were they brave enough?
