Megalopolis is an upcoming epic sci-fi drama written and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The award-winning filmmaker is best known for the movies The Godfather, The Godfather II, and Apocalypse Now. Coppola has garnered five Academy Awards, six Golden Globes, and two Palm d’Or. Megalopolis is produced by American Zoetrope, the production company founded by Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas.
Megalopolis features an all-star ensemble cast led by Adam Driver in the role of Caesar. Forest Whitaker stars as Frank Cicero while Nathalie Emmanuel plays his daughter Julia Cicero. The cast also includes Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jason Schwartzman, Dustin Hoffman, Giancarlo Esposito, D. B. Sweeney, Talia Shire, Grace VanderWaal, and Kathryn Hunter.
The script for the movie was initially written in the 1980s but due to Coppola's financial troubles he could not get the movie made in that era. He re-started work on the movie in the early 2000s with Nicolas Cage, Leonardo DiCaprio, Uma Thurman, Robert De Niro, James Gandolfini and others attached. After the September 11, 2001 attacks the movie was scrapped. Coppola began working on the movie again in 2019.
