Synopsis
When young Alex goes to visit his grandfather in Mexico, he doesn’t know what to expect
In the shed, there is a supernatural secret waiting to be found. When Alex discovers a chupacabra is taking shelter there, the teenage boy knows what he must do. With his cousins in tow, Alex sets out to save the mythical creature and begins on an adventure that seems him transported through the legends and folklore of his culture. The trio of teenagers is set for an experience that will shape their lives and identities forever.

Filmmaker, Jonas Cuaron delves into Mexican folklore
Chupa is a fantasy movie produced by 26th Street Pictures and distributed by Netflix. The screenplay is written by Tim Sexton and Jonas Cuaron and is based on an original script by Marcus Rinehart, Sean Kennedy Moore, and Joe Barnathan. The original story was written by Brendan Bellomo. Chupa is directed by Jonas Cuaron, son of the acclaimed filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron. Jonas has worked on a host of movies including a writing credit on the award-winning movie Gravity. Chupa marks his third directorial effort.
Chupa stars Evan Whitten as Alex, the boy at the heart of the adventure. He is joined by Ashley Ciarra and Nickolas Verdugo who play his cousins. Oscar nominee Demian Bichir portrays the grandfather. Julio Cesar Cedillo, Adriana Paz, and Gerardo Taracena round out the cast. Chupa was released on Netflix on April 7th, 2023.
