2023 was an absolutely phenomenal year for television. While many people complain about the rising price of streaming services and the overwhelming number of choices they now have, the reality is that the streaming era has given birth to some fantastic TV shows. From quirky, niche hits like Peacock’s Twisted Metal to Disney+’s Star Wars series Ahsoka, and returning favorites like Only Murders in the Building, 2023 has undeniably been a fantastic year for fans of television, and streaming in particular. Six of the top 10 shows watched this year are streaming-exclusives that never aired on cable or network TV.
In fact, not a single series on the list aired on network television, and only one show on the list aired on cable - Paramount’s hit western Yellowstone, which ranked at #2. Instead, 2023 saw the dominance of premium cable networks and streaming services. HBO scored with hits like The Last of Us and Succession, taking the #1 and #6 spots, and streaming giant Netflix continued to influence pop culture thanks to hit shows like Wednesday, which scored the #5 spot.
Every major streaming service aside from Peacock has at least one show on the list. Apple TV+ even scored the #3 spot thanks to its breakout phenomenon Ted Lasso, which sadly had its series finale this year. Want to know who else made the Top 10? Methodology:
We ranked our top 10 TV shows based on how many user interactions each series had. Anytime a user clicked on a streaming option, added a show to their watchlist, or marked a show as watched, it counts as an interaction. From there we crunched the numbers to find out which 10 series had been interacted with the most between January and December 2023.
