12 Best Timothée Chalamet Movies, Ranked

Updated on

Timothée Chalamet dominated 2024 with back-to-back hits: Wonka and Dune: Part Two. In the musical Wonka, Chalamet portrayed the eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka. The role originated with the great Gene Wilder and was later played by decorated actor Johnny Depp. That a role held by two prestigious actors has now been entrusted to Chalamet is a testimony to his acting skill. Meanwhile, in Dune: Part Two, he reprises his role as Paul Atreides, who takes on a messianic role in the movie as he battles against an oppressive empire.

It’s unsurprising that Denis Villeneuve settled on Chalamet to portray the protagonist Atreides in his Dune film series. Given his impressive resume, he is one of the most-desired young actors in Hollywood. He has boasted collaborations with some of the industry’s most influential directors, including Luca Guadagnino, Wes Anderson, and Greta Gerwig. Meanwhile, by the time he was 22, he had already nabbed an Oscar nomination for Best Actor, the highest honor a performer can receive.

One of the reasons why Chalamet is flourishing in the industry is his incredible range as an actor. He first gained attention by portraying a teen on a journey to self-discovery in Call Me By Your Name, but later also proved he could depict a young gentleman from the 1800s in Little Women, a cannibal in Bones and All, or even the heir of an aristocratic family from another planet in Dune. He was originally dubbed the “Prince of Indie” but also seamlessly transitioned to big-budget blockbusters. Regardless of the time period, setting, character, or budget he’s working with, Chalamet never fails to disappear in his roles and captivate audiences.

How we ranked Timothée Chalamet’s best movies

Given how many critically acclaimed films and beloved roles Chalamet has under his belt, ranking his best movies is challenging. To rank them accurately, we had to consider both the quality of the film and how memorable Chalamet was in it. For example, though Lady Bird is one of his most-well-rated films, his role as Kyle Scheiber isn’t as recognizable as his role as Paul Atreides or Elio Perlman.

Hence, these are Chalamet’s best movies ranked by quality, reception, and how iconic and memorable Chalamet’s role was.
