Synopsis
European Chancellor faces downfall amidst unrest
In the midst of nationwide unrest and the imprisonment of a key opposition figure, a European autocracy's Chancellor struggles to maintain power. From her palace, she faces dwindling support and witnesses the eventual downfall of her authoritarian rule.

Succession and Last Week Tonight writer helms HBO miniseries starring Kate Winslet
The Regime is an HBO political-drama miniseries from Will Tracy. Tracy collaborated with Seth Reiss on the screenplay for the black-comedy The Menu in 2022. His established rapport with HBO is evident through his work on such celebrated shows like Succession and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Tracy wrote three episodes of The Regime, including the pilot, while other writers such as Sarah DeLappe & Juli Weiner, Gary Shteyngart & Jen Spyra and Reiss also contributed. The miniseries is executive produced by Tracy, lead star Kate Winslet, Stephen Frears, Frank Rich and Tracey Seaward. Directors for the series include Frears and Jessica Hobbs.
Similarly to Tracy, Winslet also has a successful history of collaboration with HBO. She notably portrayed Detective Sergeant Marianne Sheehan in Mare of Easttown, earning her second Emmy Award in 2021 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. Her initial Emmy win was for her role in another HBO miniseries a decade earlier with Mildred Pierce.
Academy Award winner Kate Winslet stars in The Regime as the chancellor of a fictional Central European autocracy. Winslet is beloved for her performances in iconic titles like Titanic and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. She won the esteemed Best Actress Oscar for her role in The Reader in 2009, following five previous nominations. Joining Winslet are Guillaume Gallienne, who portrays her husband. Andrea Riseborough as her Chief Minister. Martha Plimpton as the U.S. Secretary of State. Hugh Grant as the Leader of the Opposition, and Matthias Schoenaerts.
Danny Webb, David Bamber, Henry Goodman, Stanley Townsend, Rory Keenan, Karl Markovics and Pippa Haywood round out the cast.
