The original series follows a mysterious competition where 456 individuals, all struggling financially, put their lives on the line (literally) to compete in a series of children's games. The ultimate prize for the winner is a reward of ₩45.6 billion. Squid Game went on to become the most-watched series on the platform and earned an impressive number of accolades including being nominated for a total of fourteen Primetime Emmy Awards which included a nom in the Outstanding Drama Series category. This was a significant accomplishment since it marked the first time a non-English language work had been nominated for this category.
