Pluto is set in a distant future where highly advanced robots are virtually identical to human beings. An unknown force is on a mission to eliminate the seven greatest robots in the world. Gesicht, who is not only the top investigator at Europol but also one of the seven robots on the hit list, has been given the responsibility to uncover the mystery behind these unusual murders. This task presents a unique challenge for Gesicht, as he must not only protect himself but also solve the case at hand.
Pluto season 1 is the first season of the sci-fi thriller Netflix anime series. The series, which is based on Osamu Tezuka's "The Greatest Robot on Earth" arc from Astro Boy in 1964, is produced by Genco with animation by M2Studio. The manga, created by Naoki Urasawa and Takashi Nagasaki, is considered a masterpiece by both critics and fans. Osamu Tezuka, known as the "Godfather of Manga," is highly respected in the industry. Macoto Tezka supervised the manga production while Tezuka Productions provided cooperation. Urasawa is also the author of other popular manga titles such as 20th Century Boys and Monster.
Pluto has been honoured with numerous awards including the prestigious Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize. In 2015, a stage adaptation of the manga was created and due to popular demand, it returned in 2018, touring throughout Japan and Europe. The Netflix series marks the first anime adaptation of the manga. Original author Urasawa expressed his admiration for the creators of the anime adaptation. Co-author Nagasaki added that Pluto not only promotes anti-war ideology but also emphasizes the pain and suffering endured by both sides of a conflict, with the ultimate goal being to achieve peace.
Shinshu Fuji leads the voice cast as Gesicht with Yoko Hikasa voicing Atom and Minori Suzuki as Uran.
