Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 is the first season of Disney+'s fantasy-adventure TV series from Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz. Rick Riordan's popular young adult novel series of the same name serves as the inspiration for this TV adaptation. Riordan takes on the role of executive producer and co-writer for the pilot episode, collaborating closely with Steinberg. The first season of the series covers the events depicted in the initial novel. Notably, this is the second adaptation of Riordan's Percy Jackson series, with the previous film adaptations lacking his creative involvement. The films (released in 2010 and 2013) received mixed reviews and achieved moderate box office success, despite having a devoted fan following. The TV series was brought to life by the combined efforts of directors James Bobin, Anders Engstrom, and Jet Wilkinson, each leading different episodes of the eight-part season. Utilizing the cutting-edge StageCraft technology from Industrial Light & Magic, the series features immersive visual effects.
Walker Scobell takes on the lead role of Percy Jackson, alongside Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood. Supporting the main cast, Virginia Kull portrays Sally Jackson, Glynn Turman plays Chiron/Mr. Brunner, Jason Mantzoukas brings Dionysus/Mr. D to life, Megan Mullally portrays Alecto/Ms. Dodds, Timm Sharp stars as Gabe Ugliano, Dior Goodjohn plays Clarisse La Rue, Charlie Bushnell takes on the role of Luke Castellan with Adam Copeland portraying Ares. The series also boasts notable guest stars including Jay Duplass as Hades, Timothy Omundson as Hephaestus, Toby Stephens as Poseidon and the late Lance Reddick in one of his final TV appearances as Zeus following his untimely passing in March 2023.
