The Fall of the House of Usher is a Netflix miniseries loosely based on the writings of Edgar Allan Poe. While the obvious reference is to Poe’s 1839 short story of the same name, the series is a combination of many Poe stories, including The Raven, The Masque of the Red Death and The Premature Burial. The series is created by acclaimed filmmaker Mike Flanagan, who also writes and directs. Flanagan’s previous work includes Doctor Sleep, Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House and The Midnight Club. Flanagan’s frequent collaborator, cinematographer and director Michael Fimognari is also attached to the project.
Carla Gugino stars as the mysterious woman Verna, with Bruce Greenwood as Roderick Usher. Mary McDonnell plays Madeleine, Roderick’s twin sister, with Carl Lumbly as detective C Auguste Dupin. Samantha Sloyan plays Tamerlane Usher, with T’Nia Miller as Victorine LaFourcade, Katie Parker as Annabel Lee, Michael Trucco as Rufus Wilmost Griswold, Kate Siegel as Camille L’Espanaye with Henry Thomas as Frederick Usher and Sauriyan Sapkota as Propsero Usher. Mark Hamill also appears in the miniseries as Arthur Pym.
