Yes, Wicked: Part 1 is a film adaptation of the Wicked stage musical. It covers roughly the same storyline as Act One of the musical. The stage show is an adaptation of Gregory Maguire’s novel ‘Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West’.
Who is the creative team behind Wicked: Part 1?
Jon M. Chu leads the creative team, directing both Wicked: Part 1 and Part 2. Chu has directed musical movies like In The Heights and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, in addition to Crazy Rich Asians. The screenplay is penned by Winnie Holzman, with music from Stephen Schwartz, and production design by Nathan Crowley (The Dark Knight, The Greatest Showman). The film is produced by Marc Platt Productions and Universal Pictures.
