Synopsis
Martin Scarsden must uncover the real story behind a local town tragedy
One year after a young priest kills five of his parishioners, investigative journalist Martin Scarsden arrives in the small rural town of Riversend to report on the story. Despite his intentions to write a feature story on the anniversary of the tragedy, he is met with hostility from the town’s residents. This leads him to uncover an alternative narrative to the one he had previously thought true.

Scrublands is a crime drama series on Stan. The series is a co-commission between Stan and the 9Network, and is produced by Easy Tiger Productions. Scrublands is based on Chris Hammer’s award winning novel of the same name.
The series stars Luke Arnold (Black Sails) as investigative journalist Martin Scarsden and Bella Heathcote (Relic) as local bookstore owner Mandy Bond. The show also stars Jay Ryan (Top of the Lake) as a charismatic priest, Byron Swift, who openly attacks his congregation and kills five parishioners. The cast also includes Adam Zwar and Victoria Thaine.
