Taking place after the events of the original Gladiator film, Commodus’s nephew Lucius is now grown up after being saved by Maximus. Lucius has been living in the wilderness, and no-one has seen him for the last fifteen years.
Gladiator 2 is a historical epic film directed by Ridley Scott. The film is a sequel to Scott’s 2000 Academy Award Best Picture winner Gladiator. The screenplay for Gladiator 2 is written by David Scarpa, and produced by Scott, Michael Pruss, Douglas Wick, Lucy Fisher and David Franzoni. John Mathieson serves as cinematographer, with music by Hans Zimmer and editing by Claire Simpson and Sam Restivo.
Academy Award nominated actor Paul Mescal (Aftersun, Normal People) stars in Gladiator 2 as Lucius Verus. Denzel Washington plays a former slave-turned affluent commodity and arms dealer who holds a grudge against the emperors. Connie Nielsen reprises her role of Lucilla, mother of Lucius, from the original movie, along with Derek Jacobi reprising his role as Roman Senate member, Senator Gracchus and Djimon Hounsou as former gladiator, Juba. The film’s cast also includes Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Pedro Pascal, May Calamawy, Lior Raz, Peter Mensah and Matt Lucas.
