Deep Cover (2025)

Like improv comedy, Deep Cover's effectiveness comes down to the commitment of the performers—and this cast is game for anything the story throws at them. Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom, and Nock Mohammed are all delightful in their little ways (especially Bloom's over-serious method actor), bringing a silly edge to the tropes of a Guy Ritchie crime thriller. Deep Cover is fully aware of what it is and leans into it, even as the tension ratchets up with the arrival of a game Ian McShane. It's a somewhat straightforward but always entertaining comedy caper that's worth diving into.

Improv actors going undercover to take down a drug-dealing syndicate in London’s underbelly is just as fun as it sounds. Anyone thinking Orlando Bloom only belongs in fantasy epics and gritty action movies will get a nice surprise. His portrayal of a down-on-his-luck aspiring actor is comedy gold. However, he isn’t alone. Bryce Dallas Howard and Nick Mohammed keep the laughs plentiful, and together, the trio drips with chemistry. Deep Cover makes its absurd premise work and manages to poke fun at action movie clichés while still delivering a solid (and, dare I say, sweet) story of its own.

Great performances from familiar faces. Great pacing, solid plot get right into the action.
