This guide will show you how to watch every Carrie movie in order. It will also show you where each movie is streaming right now.
In 1974, Stephen King released his first novel, Carrie. The book became a massive hit and just two years later it was turned into a film. Sissy Spacek starred as the titular Carrie, a bullied high school girl who harbors a dark secret…she possesses telekinetic powers. Check out our guide below to find out more about all four Carrie movies, plus a certain Riverdale episode that pays homage to King’s iconic story, and where to stream them online.
Carrie (1976)
The 1976 adaptation of King’s novel Carrie is not only one of the most acclaimed horror movies of all time, it’s also considered one of the best movies of the 20th century. In the film, Sissy Spacek plays a bullied girl at school who also deals with an abusive and mentally ill mother (played by Piper Laurie). Eventually, she snaps and her telekinetic powers take over. The movie was a huge hit and both Spacek and Laurie received Oscar nominations for their roles.
The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999)
The sequel The Rage: Carrie 2 centers around Rachel Lang…who is revealed to be the half-sister of Carrie from the first movie. In the film, Rachel deals with much of what Carrie did, except it’s all taken to more of an extreme, with scuzzier jocks, meaner cheerleaders, and even more unhelpful adults. The Rage was a box office bomb, but it’s still worth watching at least once if you’re a Carrie fan.
Carrie (2002)
In 2002, Carrie received a special made-for-TV movie written by Bryan Fuller (known for creating shows like Hannibal). The plot largely followed that of the original, but the movie did star some big names like Patricia Clarkson and Angela Bettis.
Carrie (2013)
In 2013, Carrie was rebooted once again, this time with a massive budget and a wide cinematic release. Again, the plot closely follows the original but was modernized to stay current with the times – now involving things like cyberbullying. It also had a great cast with Chloe Grace Moretz portraying Carrie and Julianne Moore playing her manipulative mother.
Bonus Entry: ‘A Night to Remember’ from Riverdale (2018)
In the second season of Riverdale, the episode ‘A Night to Remember’ sees the kids of Riverdale High School put on a production of ‘Carrie: The Musical’ (which is a real thing and premiered on Broadway in 1988). Naturally, being Riverdale, the musical doesn’t go as planned and a sinister mystery is revealed.
