Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is a fictional period drama series produced by Shondaland for Netflix. The series is a spinoff prequel from the original Netflix hit series Bridgerton, and gives Queen Charlotte her own origin story. Bridgerton largely hints at the societal change that took place due to the Queen, with Lady Danbury saying, “We were two separate societies divided by colour until a king fell in love with one of us”; Queen Charlotte brings the full story to the screen.
The series is written and executive produced by Shonda Rhimes, who famously created Grey’s Anatomy. Betsy Beers and Tom Verica are included as executive producers, and Verica also serves as director for the series. The young Queen Charlotte is played by India Amarteifio, and Corey Mylchreest appears as the young King George. A young Lady Agatha Danbury is played by Arsema Thomas, and the young Violet Ledger is played by Connie Jenkins-Greig. Golda Rosheuvel also appears as the contemporary Queen Charlotte from Bridgerton, as does Adjoa Andoh in her role as the present-day Lady Danbury.
