With its plot based on Shakespeare’s Hamlet, a killer soundtrack by Elton John and Hans Zimmer, and beloved side-kicks on both sides of the good and evil spectrum, the film was destined to succeed. Since its release, the Lion King has raised a pride of animated sequels, live-action remakes, spinoff television series, and even a beloved Broadway musical.

Check out the complete list of Lion King movies and TV shows:

Watch the Lion King movies and TV series in chronological order

If you want to watch the Lion King movies and TV shows in chronological order, it’s best to start with the live-action prequel film about Simba’s father, Mufasa (once it is released on December 20, 2024). From there, dive into the story of how Timon and Pumba first met and follow their adventures in the series The Lion King's Timon & Pumbaa. After that, you’re all set to watch the classic animated film The Lion King and/or its live-action counterpart of the same name.

After the original Lion King, check out the two animated sequels: The Lion King 1 ½ and the Lion King II: Simba’s Pride. The final station if you’re watching the Lion King in chronological order is the series The Lion Guard, which focuses on Simba and Nala’s son, Kion.

JustWatch’s Top 10 Most Popular Movies of 2024

With 2024 slowly coming to a close, it’s time to look back at all of the films JustWatch users watched over the past year. In theatres, Inside Out 2, Deadpool & Wolverine and Despicable Me 4 dominated the box office across the United Kingdom – but which titles were most popular on streaming services?

JustWatch’s top 10 movies of 2024 is based on the popularity of each title on our streaming guide. It shows which movies were most popular on streaming services over the last 12 months for streamers in the United Kingdom. Check out the Top 10 Movies of 2024 below, and find out where you can stream the best movies of the year online.

The Top 10 Movies of 2024 on JustWatch (United Kingdom)

1. Anatomy of a Fall
2. The Zone of Interest
3. The Holdovers
4. Oppenheimer
5. Dune: Part Two
6. Poor Things
7. Godzilla Minus One
8. Beetlejuice
9. Barbie
10. Late Night with the Devil

Looking back at the 10 most popular movies of 2024, it’s clear that audiences this year were keen to watch almost all of the films nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, which took place in March. Six of the top ten films listed above were nominated for Best Picture at the 96th Academy Awards, with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer (#4 on the list) succeeding in taking the coveted award home. However, UK audiences made their preferences clear with the captivating French drama Anatomy of a Fall, outstripping Oppenheimer and taking the top position.

Dune: Part Two, Godzilla Minus One, and Late Night with the Devil were not part of the 2024 Oscars race, but still found their way onto the year’s most popular movies on streaming services. It’s also worth noting that Dune: Part Two was released in cinemas in 2024 and has been available to stream for a shorter period of time than 2023 titles like Oppenheimer and Barbie. As one of the summer’s big box office hits, it’s no wonder fans wanted to revisit Denis Villeneuve’s film when it became available to stream on several platforms.

Japan’s Godzilla Minus One debuted in cinemas in the UK at the end of December 2023 and was the second highest-grossing film after Wonka during its opening weekend. Godzilla Minus One was then released worldwide for streaming on Netflix in June 2024, where it became an instant fan favourite. The final entry on the list, Late Night with the Devil, was acquired by Amazon’s Shudder horror channel after its debut at SXSW. After a stint in cinemas, the supernatural horror film became available to stream on Amazon Prime in mid-April 2024.

•
How (and Where) to Watch the Home Alone Movies in Order

How (and Where) to Watch the Home Alone Movies in Order

Home Alone is one of the most beloved Christmas classics from the 1990s. The first two films star Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, a young boy who accidentally gets left behind over Christmas and winds up expertly defending this home from a couple of inept thieves. Over the next two decades, a total of six Home Alone films were released. Check out how (and where) to watch all the Home Alone movies in order below!

How to watch the Home Alone movies in order

Luckily for us, it’s fairly easy to watch the Home Alone movies in order. Because the order of release is the same as the chronological order, you can simply start with the 1990 classic and proceed all the way to the end. Home Alone 3 and The Holiday Heist are completely standalone films, while the other instalments feature a few overlapping characters.

The first two films star Macauley Culkin as the adorable Kevin McCallister, a crafty young boy who finds himself all alone on Christmas eve as a pair of thieves attempt to break in and rob his house. Over the course of the film, Kevin finds creative ways to thwart the thieves as they get increasingly more battered and frustrated by failing to carry out what seemed like an easy operation. The first three Home Alone films are written and created by the legendary filmmaker John Hughes, and the first two are directed by Chris Columbus. Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern star as the two thieves, and Catherine O’Hara and John Heard play Kevin’s worried and overwhelmed parents.

Home Alone 3 features an all new cast, with Alex D Linz starring as 8-year-old Alex Pruitt as he is — wait for it — left alone at home and must defend his house, this time from a band of international terrorists.

Home Alone 4 returns us to the McCallister family, but with an almost completely new cast. Peter McCallister (now played by Jason Beghe) is divorcing Kate (now played by Clare Carey), and invites the kids to spend Christmas with him and his girlfriend at her family mansion, where a group of royals are also being hosted. The film sees the return of one of the thieves, Marv, although this time he’s played by French Stewart instead of Daniel Stern.

Home Alone: The Holiday Heist pivots to focus on a new family, the Baxters, after they relocate from California to Maine. During the holiday season, the young Finn Baxter (played by Christian Martyn) must defend the new family home alone from a group of thieves.

In 2021, a sixth instalment was released with Home Sweet Home Alone. The film focuses on a new family and stars Archie Yates as the young Max Mercer who gets left at home, Rob Delaney and Ellie Kemper as a couple who try to break into Max’s home to retrieve an item they believe he stole, and Aisling Bea as Max’s mother Carol. Other cast members include Kenan Thompson, Pete Holmes, and Chris Parnell, and Devin Ratray makes a cameo appearance reprising his role as Buzz McCallister.
