Disney hasn't released any official synopsis for Toy Story 5 yet. Given the events of Toy Story 4, there are endless plotlines the new movie could choose to explore. The fourth Toy Story film ended with Woody choosing to leave Buzz Lightyear, Slinky, and the rest of his beloved friends as they made their way back to Bonnie to join Bo Beep and the rest of the lost toys for a life of freedom at the carnival. The new movie could explore Woody's life as a lost toy, or delve deeper into the character arcs of Forky, the existential spork who was introduced in Toy Story 4, and the rest of the toys in Bonny's toy closet as she prepares for first grade.
Disney's announcement for Toy Story 5 has left the internet divided. While a lot of fans are excited to see their favorite toys back in action, the other half made their peace with the franchise ending after the fourth film. Toy Story 4 saw Woody finally put his own needs before his human's, and make his peace with not being the favorite toy in the toybox. However, the movie also introduced a sleuth of new toys, and brought back some old favorites like Bo Beep. While Toy Story 4 did provide closure to some beloved characters, it also opened up the avenue for Pixar to explore more storylines in the future. So far, Disney has only confirmed the news of Toy Story 5, they haven't mentioned anything about it being the last film in the franchise.
Pete Doctor, the CEO of Pixar revealed that Woody and Buzz will be returning for Toy Story 5 in an interview with Variety. Tim Allen, the voice actor for Buzz Lightyear confirmed his involvement in the upcoming film by sharing an image of the iconic space ranger on Twitter/X with the caption, 'See ya soon Woody, you are a sad strange little man and you have my pity. And off we go to a number 5! To infinity and beyond!' While fans are hopeful to see Tom Hanks return to voice the role of Woody, there's still no official confirmation from Disney or Hanks' team confirming the same.
