How to Watch Rajinikanth’s Robot Movies In Order – A Complete Streaming Guide

Published on

Rajinikanth has endured as a Tamil superstar for decades but 2010’s Enthiran (released as Robot in Telugu and Hindi) marked a new chapter in his career for modern audiences. So, gear up for the superstar in double roles, a lot of cyborg action, and AR Rahman’s techno-infused music score. Here’s a complete streaming guide for you to check out Rajinikanth’s cult sci-fi epic and its associated movies in chronological order.

How to watch the Robot movies in chronological order

You can fortunately watch the Robot movies in the same order as their release date:

Enthiran starts off with Rajinikanth playing a gifted robot scientist Vaseegaran who creates the lifelike humanoid cyborg Chitti (also played by Rajinikanth). But when Chitti starts developing feelings for his creator’s girlfriend Sana (Aishwarya Rai), chaos ensues with cloned cyborgs and a robotic revolution.

The movie is followed by the direct sequel 2.0 that finds Vaseegaran teaming up with Chitti once again to defeat a mutant supervillain (Akshay Kumar) who possesses the ability to manipulate birds.

The sequel yet again finds Rajinikanth in a double role even though Rai chose to sit back as the female lead with Amy Jackson filling her spot as a new android named Nila. Both Enthiran and 2.0 are directed by Rajinikanth’s Sivaji The Boss collaborator Shankar.

How is Ra. One connected to the Robot movies?

Indian sci-fi movies dealing with robots are less in number and it’s not surprising that a Bollywood entry in this genre is connected to the Robot franchise. Despite Chitti being kept in a museum at the end of the first movie, he makes a guest appearance in Ra. One (that interestingly also had Shah Rukh Khan in a similar double role as a scientist and a video game character created by him).

Reprising his role as Chitti, a computer-generated version of Rajinikanth briefly appears to assist the video game hero G-One. It’s uncertain where Ra. One fits in the Robot series but it is likely to sit somewhere between Enthiran and 2.0 as Chitti still retains his appearance from the former (instead of the red spiked hair and armor from 2.0).

In what languages can you watch the Robot movies?

Both the Robot movies are available to stream in the original Tamil as well as the Hindi dubs. Considering that the first movie starred Bollywood actor Danny Denzhongpa as the villain and Akshay Kumar filled his shoes in the sequel, both of their parts were originally recorded in Hindi (and dubbed over in the Tamil versions).

Will there be a third movie in the Robot series?

Considering that 2.0 is the second highest-grossing Tamil film at the time of writing, and with Enthiran ranking at tenth, it’s safe to say that the Robot franchise has been a commercial success. While neither Shankar nor Rajinikanth have confirmed another sequel, it wouldn’t be surprising if a third Robot movie gets greenlit.

Where can you stream the Robot movies?

Both Enthiran and its dubbed version, Robot , are available to watch on Sun NXT. 2.0, on the other hand, is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video or to rent on Amazon. Ra. One can be streamed on Eros Now and on ZEE5 (for free).
