Subverting shounen anime tropes and borrowing from Western superhero influences, My Hero Academia is often hailed as one of the best new anime since the 2010s. The anime follows teenager Izuku Midoriya as he finds his footing in the titular superheroing school, while taking down global threats under the guidance of his Superman-like mentor All-Might.

My Hero Academia: You're Next
Each season covers Midoriya’s coming-of-age from a mild-mannered teenager to a full-blown superhero who explores his “Quirk” (MHA speak for superpowers). Throughout the series, the focus also lies on other superpowered classmates like the hand-explosion master Bakugou and Todoroki who can channel the dual forces of fire and ice.
The first MHA movie was 2018’s My Hero Academia: Two Heroes that takes place between the end of season 2 (Final Exam arc) and the beginning of season 3 (Forest Training camp arc) with Midoriya and All-Might helping out one of the latter’s friends as Villains attack an artificially moving island.
The next movie was 2019’s My Hero Academia the Movie 2: Heroes: Rising which yet again takes place on an island. Set in between Seasons 4 and 5, the movie found Midoriya and his classmates saving a group of islanders from the ominous Nine, the most powerful villain that the team encountered at the point.
Heroes Rising gave way to Season 5 which was followed by another movie, the 2021 release My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission. The movie increased the stakes of the anime with Midoriya and the other Japanese heroes joining the global Pro-Heroes league to foil a terrorist conspiracy that can alter the entire world.
Season 6 of the anime aired the next year and continued until 2023. The year 2024 will mark the release of Season 7 in May while a new movie titled My Hero Academia: You’re Next is slated for an August release.
