It’s been over two decades since Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone introduced audiences to the Wizarding World and made its young stars household names. While some cast members continued acting in major franchises, others pursued unexpected careers or sadly passed away. From Daniel Radcliffe’s indie film success to the legacy of Alan Rickman, here’s what happened to the cast of Sorcerer’s Stone and where you can watch their movies and TV shows online.

Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter)

After Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe proved he wasn’t afraid to take risks. He starred in indie hits like Swiss Army Man (where he played a farting corpse) and the biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. He explored horror (The Woman in Black and Horns), drama (Kill Your Darlings as the poet Allen Ginsberg), and action (Guns Akimbo). He also is effortlessly effective in supporting roles along A-list stars, such as him revisiting magic in Now You See Me 2 or playing an obnoxious millionaire villain in The Lost City. Radcliffe also led the TV anthology comedy Miracle Workers and won acclaim for his eclectic, genre-diverse roles, showing he’s far more than just the Boy Who Lived.

Emma Watson (Hermione Granger)

Emma Watson balanced acting with activism once her stint as Hermione was over. Since then, she starred in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Beauty and the Beast, and Little Women, proving her acting chops beyond Hogwarts. However, she also made a name for herself as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, advocating for gender equality with the HeForShe campaign. Though she has stepped back from acting in recent years, Watson’s impact both on-screen and off remains undeniable.

Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley)

Unlike his co-stars, Rupert Grint moved away from the big screen, choosing quirky and darker TV roles. He starred in the crime comedy Snatch, Apple TV+’s psychological thriller Servant, and even had a memorable role in Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. He also became a father in 2020, stepping into a new chapter of life while still occasionally appearing in offbeat projects.

Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom)

Once the awkward, buck-toothed Neville, Matthew Lewis had one of the most famous glow-ups in Hollywood. He took on more mature roles in dramas like Me Before You and starred in BBC series Ripper Street and All Creatures Great and Small. Lewis has proven he’s more than just Neville, but he remains deeply grateful for his Potter legacy.

James & Oliver Phelps (Fred & George Weasley)

The Phelps twins, who played the mischievous Weasley twins, have largely stepped away from acting, though they still embrace their Harry Potter connection. They host a travel podcast called Normal Not Normal and have made guest appearances in shows like King of the Nerds and Silent Witness. The brothers frequently attend fan conventions, keeping the Weasley spirit alive.

Alan Rickman (Professor Snape)

Alan Rickman’s deep voice and commanding presence made Severus Snape one of Harry Potter’s most complex characters. After Potter, he starred in The Butler and Eye in the Sky before sadly passing away in 2016. His diary entries, published posthumously, revealed his deep love for acting and his emotional journey portraying Snape. His loss remains one of the greatest in the film industry.

Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall)

A screen legend long before Harry Potter, Maggie Smith continued her dominance in film and TV. She stole scenes in Downton Abbey, reprised her role for its two film sequels, and appeared in The Lady in the Van and The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Despite passing away at the age of 89 in September 2024, her sharp wit and incredible talent remain unmatched.

Ian Hart (Professor Quirrell)

Ian Hart played the timid yet secretly sinister Professor Quirrell, who hosted Voldemort on the back of his head. Since then, Hart has taken on a variety of TV roles, including in The Terror, The Last Kingdom, and The Responder. While his Potter role was brief, he has remained a respected character actor in British television.

Richard Harris (Albus Dumbledore)

Veteran British actor Richard Harris, the original Dumbledore, tragically passed away in 2002, after portraying the wise headmaster in the first two Harry Potter films. He was replaced by Michael Gambon, who gave a more energetic performance in later films.

The Dursleys (Richard Griffiths, Fiona Shaw, Harry Melling)

Richard Griffiths (Uncle Vernon) was an acclaimed actor before Harry Potter, but he shone in the endearing British comedy film The History Boys after the series. He passed away in 2013.

Fiona Shaw (Aunt Petunia) starred in authority figures in shows like the Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer-led crime thriller Killing Eve and the Star Wars prequel series Andor, proving her incredible range.

Harry Melling (Dudley Dursley) underwent a remarkable transformation and has since starred in Netflix originals like the chess drama The Queen’s Gambit, the psychological thriller The Devil All the Time, and the period thriller The Pale Blue Eye.
