Captain America: Civil War (2016)
The chronological viewing order for the Captain America movies is the same sequence as their release order. His story begins in Captain America: The First Avenger, released in 2011. It features a mild-mannered Steve Rogers who transforms from a bullied army aspirant into a superpowered war hero. However, The First Avenger leads to a dramatic sacrifice that will change Captain America’s life forever.

After Captain America is frozen in ice for several decades, he next appears in the MCU ensemble epic The Avengers – taking place in the 21st century. After saving the world with his fellow avengers, The Winter Soldier presents Captain America with a moral dilemma when his best friend Bucky Barnes – aka the titular Winter Soldier – is resurrected and used as a brain-washed assassin.
The Winter Soldier marked the MCU debut of directing duo Joe and Anthony Russo, who would go on to direct Captain America’s next movie, Civil War. The movie takes place after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, as the Marvel heroes are confronted with avoiding the collateral damage they previously caused. It features an ambitious team-up event that divides Earth’s mightiest heroes between Team Cap and Team Iron Man.
Does the Captain America franchise include a TV show?
Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Disney+’s original series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier continues the lore of Captain America. Uniting Captain America’s loyal ally Falcon with a reformed Bucky, the series paved the way for the next Captain America movie.
Will there be a Captain America 4?
Post-Endgame, a new Captain America movie with Sam Wilson as the protagonist has long been in the works. Titled Captain America: Brave New World and slated for a 2025 release, not much is known about the upcoming movie’s plot. But the casting details reveal that several characters from The Incredible Hulk will be returning like the Hulk’s romantic interest Betty Ross and nemesis The Leader. Even Indiana Jones actor Harrison Ford is slated to play General Ross aka Red Hulk!
