The Princess and the Frog sequel series features the return of Anika Noni Rose and Oprah Winfrey
Tiana season 1 is the upcoming season of Disney+'s animated TV series created by Joyce Sherri. It serves as a continuation of the 2009 film The Princess and the Frog, originally helmed by John Musker and Ron Clements. Against the vibrant backdrop of 1920s New Orleans, the story follows Tiana, an industrious waitress with dreams of establishing her own restaurant. However, her life takes an enchanting twist when a transformative kiss turns a prince (cursed by a witch doctor) into a frog. This leads Tiana to undergo a similar amphibian transformation. Now navigating the world as a frog, she embarks on a quest to reclaim her human form before it's too late. The film earned prestigious acclaim, securing three Academy Award nominations including one for Best Animated Feature and two for Best Original Song. Notably, Tiana etched her name in history as Disney's first Black Princess.
Sherri is the lead writer and director for Tiana, following her work on the Netflix miniseries Midnight Mass. Adding to the creative powerhouse, Frozen co-director Jennifer Lee assumes the role of executive producer, with Stella Meghie. Initially slated as the writer and director, Meghie ultimately passed the baton to Sherri. Tiana's journey signifies a groundbreaking moment as the first Disney Princess to feature in both a film and TV series.
Anika Noni Rose, known for her roles in films like Dreamgirls, For Colored Girls and Assassination Nation, reprises her role as the voice of Tiana in the first season. Additionally, she made a cameo as Tiana in 2018's Ralph Breaks the Internet. Oprah Winfrey also returns to portray Tiana's mother, Eudora.
