David Oyelowo stars as real-life lawman in miniseries executive produced by Taylor Sheridan
Lawmen: Bass Reeves is a Western-drama miniseries created by Chad Feehan for Paramount+. It is based on the incredible life and career of the titular Bass Reeves who was the first Black Deputy U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi River. Feehan is best known for his work on Ray Donovan and Banshee. Taylor Sheridan, who has helmed several popular Paramount+ TV shows including Yellowstone and its respective spin-offs, serves as an executive producer on the miniseries. Other executive producers include Feehan and star David Oyelowo alongside Ron Burkle, David Glasser, David Hutkin, Jessica Oyelowo, David Permut and Bob Yari.
David Oyelowo leads the miniseries as Bass Reeves. He is an acclaimed actor best known for his work in such titles as Selma, The Butler and Silo. Dennis Quaid plays Sherrill Lynn, a Deputy U.S. Marshal, while Forrest Goodluck portrays Billy Crow, a young Cherokee man known for his love of dime store books and distinctive style. Lauren E. Banks portrays Jennie Reeves, the wife of Bass Reeves. Barry Pepper takes on the role of Esau Pierce, the leader of the 1st Cherokee Mounted Rifles. Grantham Coleman is Edwin Jones, a charismatic individual with a promising vision for the future. Demi Singleton plays Sally Reeves, the daughter of Bass Reeves.
Garrett Hedlund portrays Garrett Montgomery, a skilled posse man hired by Bass for his riding expertise, and legendary actor Donald Sutherland plays the role of Judge Isaac Parker, an imposing and authoritative figure often referred to as "Hanging Judge" Parker in the Fort Smith Courthouse. Dale Dickey appears as Widow Dolliver while Joaquina Kalukango, Lonnie Chavis, Rob Morgan, Ryan O’Nan, Justin Hurtt-Dunkley and Shea Whigham round out the cast.
