Knuckles is a Paramount+ action-adventure TV miniseries from John Whittington and Toby Ascher.
Knuckles is a TV spin-off of the Sonic the Hedgehog film series which originated from the iconic Sega video game franchise. It also serves as the first live-action Sonic TV show. The first Sonic film premiered in 2020 and grossed an impressive $319 million globally on an $85-90 million budget. Its sequel followed two years later, and a third installment is set for a 2024 release. Knuckles the character was introduced in the 2022 sequel, with the miniseries set between the second and third films in the series.
Knuckles co-developer John Whittington, known for his work on hit movies like The Lego Batman Movie, The Lego Ninjago Movie and DC League of Super-Pets, co-wrote Sonic the Hedgehog 2 with Pat Casey and Josh Miller. He also worked on the third film. Toby Ascher, who previously produced the Sonic films along with titles such as Spenser Confidential and Battle Los Angeles, serves as an executive producer on Knuckles along with Whittington, star Idris Elba, original Sonic director Jeff Fowler, Neal H. Moritz and Toru Nakahara. Ted Lasso's Tom Howe composed the series' music. Fowler directs the first episode of Knuckles, with additional directors including Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone and Carol Banker.
Idris Elba, best known for his role in The Wire, reprises his role from the previous entries as Knuckles the Echidna. Elba's previous voice roles include Zootopia, The Jungle Book and Finding Dory. Joining him is Adam Pally as Wade Whipple, who previously appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
The supporting cast includes Cary Elwes as "Pistol" Pete Whipple, Edi Patterson as Wanda Whip, Stockard Channing as Wendy Whipple, Julian Barratt as Jack Sinclair, Scott Mescudi AKA Kid Cudi as Agent Mason and Ellie Taylor as Agent Willoughby. The lineup of guest stars include Rory McCann portraying "The Buyer", Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski, Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Miles "Tails" Prower, Christopher Lloyd as Pachacamac, along with Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel and Ben Schwartz returning as Sonic the Hedgehog.
Knuckles began streaming on Paramount+ on April 26, 2024.
