Carol & The End of The World is a Netflix sci-fi dramedy adult animated miniseries written and created by Dan Guterman. An accomplished comedy writer, Guterman is best known for his contributions to The Onion alongside his work on celebrated TV shows like The Colbert Report, Community and Rick and Morty. He is additionally a writer and executive producer on Carol & The End of The World while Kevin Arrieta and Donick Cary also serve as the series' executive producers. Guterman has previously described the show to Deadline as being "a love letter to routine. A show about the comforts of monotony. An animated and existential comedy about the daily rituals that make up the gaps that make up a life."
Voicing the character of Carol Kohl, Martha Kelly takes the lead in the series. Known for her role in Baskets, she has also showcased her talent in American Gods, The Great North and Gaslit. Kelly also received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her performance in Euphoria in 2022. The ensemble cast includes Beth Grant, Lawrence Pressman, Kimberly Hebert Gregory, Mel Rodriguez, Bridget Everett, Michael Chernus and Delbert Hunt.
