Mariam and her classmates, who attend Jordan's most prestigious all-girls school, face controversy and internal conflicts. Their relationships were far from amicable in the first season, but their disagreements went beyond mere bullying and distrust. These girls exist in a world where concealing their true identities is the norm. They frequently endure suffering and make personal sacrifices, whether it involves romantic relationships with the opposite sex or upholding a flawless image. Season 2 features heightened conflicts and a deeper examination of the challenges faced by young women in contemporary Jordan.
AlRawabi School for Girls season 2 is the second season of the Jordanian drama TV series created and co-written by Tima Shomali for Netflix. Shomali also handles directing duties on the series. She co-wrote the series with Shirin Kamal and Islam Alshomali. The series follows Mariam, a young student who experiences bullying at her prestigious private school in Jordan. In response, she and her friends devise a plan for revenge but it leads to unforeseen outcomes. The series also sheds light on lesser-discussed aspects of school life. It serves as a mirror to the prevalent patriarchy, corrupt systems, bullying, sexual assault, reputation concerns and the longstanding tradition of honor killings.
The series not only focuses on the perspectives of teenage girls and their personal lives, but it also critically examines the patriarchal systems deeply embedded in their culture. Its surprising success on Netflix in Arab countries proved that viewers have been yearning for a shift in programming. AlRawabi School for Girls bravely confronts the issue of young women's mental health, which has traditionally been a forbidden subject in the region.
Andria Tayeh portrays the character of Mariam in the second season of AlRawabi School for Girls. Joining her are Rakeen Sa'ad as Noaf, Noor Taher as Layan, Yara Mustafa as Dina and Joanna Arida as Rania.
